A deal with the caretaker looks to the Mine as the site where the business of extraction is inseparable from superstition and ritualistic gesturing. At odds with the rhythm of Capital, the Miner in their dangerous work tries to coax a temporary geological truce with offerings to an anthropomorphised underworld. The Mine speak back in gold, coal, cobalt, cave-in’s, noxious gas, fires, and through the thawed glowing biological pigments of vanished oceans squashed into shale.
