Kieken Centrale art residency Antwerp

At the invitation of Kieken Centrale artist residency, myself and artists/collaborators Daisy Madden-Wells and Lucy Cordes Engelman, transformed the location into a space for gathering, unconventional ghost story telling, readings, exhibition.

Sometimes Iā€™m Afraid of Ruining What I Have was my contribution, and continuation of an on-going research and studio project on natural versus synthetic textile dyes, impact of the dye trade in Europe and the Americas, and how an un-dyed piece of white fabric became the de-facto costume for depicting ghosts on screen and stage.

Images are from the textile dyeing process, and the short lecture I presented (with Daisy Madden-Wells as ghost) on our public open day.

Dyes used : Cochineal, Madder root, Chlorophyllin, RIT UV-reactive neon green (in combination with cellulose fibers and aluminium triformate mordant, tartar)
